Waterproofing a residential house on a sloping site

Bach Waterproofing, Coromandel

SUMMARY

Holiday Homes or Baches are places to relax and enjoy some well-earned time off and this coromandel based lodge with exceptional views of Hahei a perfect example. Recessed into a hill the brick and block substrate leaked through the mortar joints every time the below ground water level would rise, especially when it rained. The dampness and odour made the below ground portion of the home unusable. The homeowners were stuck for a solution that did not involve complete external excavation which was too costly, they did not know where turn.

After hearing of the Newton System 500, the homeowner immediately arranged for our design team to work with Rubix, to create a bespoke waterproofing solution that would transform their wet batch and turn it into the habitable sanctuary they dreamed of.

THE PROJECT

Newton Founder and Senior Designer Stuart Tansey worked with Rubix to design the waterproofing system that would complimented the building's structure, its location, and its intended purpose. The options where limited due to the built-up surrounding ground, so the internal approach was chosen.

THE SPECIFICATION

Our Newton System 500 Cavity Drain Membrane System was designed and installed.

The Newton System 500 was installed on both walls and floors. In contrast to traditional tanking methods, this system is more considerate of the building, introducing no additional stresses or strains on the structure. The flexible membranes create a depressurisation void, effectively managing water under pressure away from the structure. Moreover, the system is designed to be maintainable, taking into account the potential consequences of failure and offering the capacity to address any future issues, even after the finishes have been applied.

H1 Energy efficiency was also considered within the design, Newtons XPS 500 insulation was installed as part of the floor build Dry and warm!

THE RESULT

The installers had set aside two days for the installation, it was completed in only one day. Minimal prep, and no drying times and an instant vapour barrier meant that the timber, gib board and plastering finishes could commence immediately.

The team delivered a dry internal habitable environment, fully maintainable, 100% defect free and warrantied for 30 years.

No external dig out and no drying time means that the Newton system 500 is not only a cost effective solution but you can have a finished room faster. Our products are the only internal waterproofing system that is able to be guaranteed.
